Genius Camp 2009
Today is the Day! A genius grows in Brooklyn…

After a whole night of editing, last minute edits are now taking place. The favorite sketckes are being chosen for the screening. There is laughter, stress, genius, and fatigue surrounding this camp in Brooklyn. The groups will be ready to show you the fruit of their labors tonight!

At this very second. the groups are looking over one particular sketch about room mates not quite seeing eye to eye.

Want to see what they did? Go to 70 North 6th Street in Brooklyn at 8pm tonight. It’s $8 at the doors.

Can’t make it? You can check them out on youtube at a later time. Genius Camp has a channel!

27 Hours Until Doors Open for the Screening

Hey Everyone,

It’s Erika again! Here’s a picture of me writing this blog right now. When Now? Now, Now.

Photo credits go to Tyler (Horsehead Businessman.) A fine gentleman.

We just finished up lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Discussed Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Relevant stuff accomplished today:

-The last sketch has been filmed, and it’s being edited as I write this. It included 9 of the members of Genius Camp, creating quite the ensamble. It strikes heartfelt chords in the most emotionless creature.

-Maggie, Jen, and Marcie (POYKPAC and LOOinLONDON respectively) filmed a sketch of their own, with some help from Abe. Giggles were had, even from Abe, and the ladies turned out 45 minutes of hilarity to edit into a two minute piece.

-There will lots of editing from here on out.

-Lots of editing.

LOVE,

-Erika (teh intern)

PS. Want to go to the screening? It’s being held at 70 North 6th Street in Brooklyn, NY. Doors open at 8PM, and it’s $8 to get in.

The first four days I was here, I was all locked up.

No stool.

Lately though…. success!

Checking in on Day 11…

…Or by Michael Swaim’s math, Day 14.

Hi,

I’m Erika. I’m the intern, and I’m not getting paid, so please allow me to spill the dirt on Genius Camp. The 20 hour deadline for editing was just announced, so four editing stations are being used for a total of 40 hours of editing left!

Without giving too much away; Noah is following one of the dogs around for a sketch. That probably presents more questions than answers, but check it out when it’s finished!

We also took a quiz on memes recently to refresh our knowledge of teh internets. Brad O’Farrell, a meme-gician, was here to help us out. I failed. Receiving a fail sticker out of it (which was a win in reality). Ryan won the quiz getting a pedobear stuffed animal, much to the jealousy of everyone. …and now that I brought the quiz up, now everyone is discussing the questions again in the room. So I ask you, is the Titanic a, A.)Pwn, B.)Win, or C.)Fail ?

The question of course is credited to Brad O’Farrell himself. With that being said, until my next post, or someone else’s, check out some of the groups’ videos on youtube. I know give you permission to become excited!

Checking In On Day 13

This is officially the unluckiest day of Genius Camp, and accordingly, our tent started taking on rain water, our sketches are all a day or two behind, and Noah was killed.

But man, is it going to be worth it. The scant few sketches that are in a finished state are looking fabulous (we even got a Red up in this bitch), and they all have a certain special blend of each comedian’s unique herbs and spices.

In the midst of our mad orgy of editing and post-pro to get everything ready for the screening, we even managed to slam together some behind the scenes footage that will be appearing shortly.

New York is awesome, the sketches are great, and we’re all becoming extremely close and politicized about the state of net video and the network’s uninformed role in steamrolling that process. So that’s the kind of humor you can expect on the 23rd. Woo! - MichaelSwaim

We all keep driving Scott crazy by singing his song…found here:

Once it’s in your head, it can’t stop….  Have you ever heard of Son of Sam?

Wiki excerpt:

“Shortly after his arrest in August 1977, Berkowitz confessed to killing six people and wounding seven others in the course of eight shootings in New York between 1976 and 1977; he has been imprisoned for these crimes since 1977.”

But here’s where it gets interesting:

Berkowitz subsequently claimed that he was commanded to kill by a demon who possessed his neighbor’s dog that could not stop singing Michael McDonald songs.

It’s hot on this rooftop. Makes a man feel kind of weird some times.
